Los Angeles Murphy Oil Drilling Site

We have the opportunity to close the Murphy Oil Drilling Site in LA and make a difference for the thousands of people who live near this site and also promote the clean energy transition that is needed for climate healing.

Ways you can help

  • Sign the petition to tell LA leaders to close the site.
  • Attend a prayerful witness at the Murphy Oil Drilling Site every 1st Saturday at 10 am at 2126 West Adams Boulevard, Los Angels, 90018. Registration is optional but helps us plan. After each prayer session a letter is sent to the LA Bishops. Current and past letters to the LA Bishops are here.
  • Sign the letter to the LA Bishops even if you cannot attend the prayerful witness in person.
  • Educate yourself on the Murphy Oil Site from the information below and pray with us in solidarity.

Caring for creation and caring for one another are intrinsically linked. By helping our community to close the Murphy Oil Drilling site in Los Angeles you will be doing both.

The harmful health effects from chemicals released at this site are well summarized in this brochure. Imagine how this affects thousands of people with 16,000 living within just 1/2 a mile of the site. See also pages 14-16 of this document that summarize the health research on oil drilling.

The site is owned by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and leased to a company that manages the drilling and operations at the site.  Here is a story of the successful of closing the AllenCo site which was also owned by the archdiocese, but of the continued challenge at the Murphy Site: NCR article.

Stand LA is a coalition of organizations working to end oil drilling in Los Angleles since 2010.
